lovebowls Gives You the Tools to Make Match Selections Fairer and Clearer.
Go to the bottom of each fixture Team Sheet, there's a table showing all the members who have made themselves available.
Choose a competition from the "Stats" dropdown above the list and a multitude of numbers and percentages appear. For now, focus on the first of the new columns : fairness.
This number provides you with a scale, indicating how fortunate (or unfortunate) each member listed has been in their selection over certain recent matches.
How does the "fairness" algorithm work?
Imagine a hyperthetical club where match selection was performed by drawing the positions out of a hat (that is to say, completely randomly). In that system there would be certain players who, by chance, had been picked fewer times.
lovebowls' Fairness algorithm takes this as a baseline then adds a few other factors into the mix (see below).
Once all members' scores are worked out, the highest scoring member is put in top spot (number 1- remember Top of the Pops 😉), this is who lovebowls calculates as the most deserving of being picked. All other members will have a similar rank/chart position.

The fairness score itself is calculated based on a member's involvement in the last 15 eligible fixtures. It takes into account the following factors:
Availability for fixtures (adds to the score)
Selected to play in fixtures (subtracts from the score)
Being listed as a reserve (adds heavily to the score)
Withdrawing from a fixture after selection (subtracts heavily from the score)
Being unavailable or away for a fixture (subtracts from the score)
More recent fixtures are given higher weight in the calculation. So a player's latest involvement impacts their fairness score more than fixtures further in the past.
A recent update has opened up the list of available players (and the stats) to all your members and this will hopefully increase transparency further.
